We Want to Help More Mothers and Children
The rehabilitation home in Chelyabinsk, Siberia, is expanding its facilities.
Despite the war, our work in Russian shelter homes has continued almost as usual. Costs have risen and budgets have been tightened, but the work for abused children and mothers has not been thwarted by the challenges.
One of the shelter homes Mission Possible supports is in Chelyabinsk. For six years Olga, the director of the home, and her team have helped hundreds of mothers and their children who have suffered from violence or substance abuse.
Last year 28 mothers and 45 children resided in this home, and 35 other families were helped in the community.

Olga is constantly receiving inquiries about whether there is room for another mother and her children. The current shelter home is at full capacity, and several families are sharing rooms. The rented facility has been in need of renovations, but the landlord is not willing to make that investment.
Last fall, a more spacious house was found, so we are transforming it into a new shelter home! It has three floors and 4,840 square feet of living space. It is in a quiet setting with a school and hospital nearby. The house is an answer to prayer as it will offer a new start for all the mothers and children who will fill it. The goal is to move in this year.
A child psychologist visits the shelter home to help the children develop their learning and social skills. A speech therapist is a regular resource to these children also, and a legal advisor assists families with official documents they need completed or acquired.
