Sveta Came to the Church through Our Laundry Room!
ELENA FEDONOVA, BOGOTOL (RUSSIA)
It was a somewhat unusual situation that led us to meet Sveta about a year ago. We were building a house, and one day when we arrived at the construction site, we could see it had been vandalized. The culprits turned out to be the neighbors’ son and his friends.
We went to the house next door to discuss the issue. The family with four children was very poor, and the husband drank almost constantly. Sveta, the wife, told us about her family’s difficult life. Their house was in terrible condition and water had to be hauled from a considerable distance away.
Since our activity center offers a laundry room for families without such facilities to use, we were able to immediately offer Sveta some help. She now gratefully does her family’s laundry there each week.
After some time, the family’s 10-year-old son and his friends (the ones who vandalized our building project) started attending our youth meetings! They were then welcomed to join us for a youth outing.
Sveta started coming to church services and women’s meetings. She desires to come every time, but as she is responsible for the home and her youngest child is still very small, she can’t always make it.
Recently she told me that her husband is also interested in joining her for church gatherings! He asked her what time the services begin and if she would please pray for him when she’s there. He promises to attend in the future.
