On the Path of Faith: The Story of Petra and Her Family

Ihtiman is an impoverished village, but the atmosphere inside its church building was warm and brimming with anticipation when we arrived. The room was filled with young women who were expecting or had just had babies. We had a Baby Box to give to each mother in the room, and Petra was one of them.

After the church event, Petra invited us to her home. We brought a Baby Box for her youngest son, the couple’s fifth living child. Two children had died, which caused great sorrow for the family.

Our worker Irina, the author of this story, prayed for Petra and her children at the church’s Baby Box event and helped carry the box to the family’s home.

Petra heard the gospel through a Baby Box

This was not the first Baby Box Petra received. We had brought them for her other children as well.  

At a Baby Box event a few years ago, Petra heard and understood the gospel for the first time when we shared its message using “gospel bracelets,” which we had designed specifically for mothers. She responded to Jesus with “Yes!” and her life from then on had a firm foundation.

On the path of faith, trusting God

The last time Petra was pregnant, she asked us to pray for her. The doctor told her there would most likely be complications during delivery. Petra joyfully shared that God protected her and her baby son through it all.

The family has also experienced God’s help in other matters. Petra’s husband found a job that enables him to provide for his family of seven. He is now expanding their home, which currently has only one room. “Soon we will have a children’s room!” Petra exclaimed.

Petra’s faith has grown and the whole family is doing well. This brings us joy and makes us so grateful to God.

Our work in the Lord is not in vain!
