Mission Possible Team in the Middle of the Flames of War in Ukraine
The people of Ukraine, who have barely had time to rise from the economic, social, and spiritual turmoil caused by the pandemic, are facing another catastrophe. War is not a new thing in Ukraine – there have been conflicts in the East of the country for the last eight years – but now the whole country is at war, the situation is serious, and people are dying all over the country.
Early in the morning on February 24, 2022, Mission Possible's Ukrainian team in Odesa woke up to explosions from rocket fire. The city's military facilities were targeted. One of our team members lives near this area, and one of the rockets fell near their home.
Many people are trying to flee Ukraine and major cities. We will do our best to help those in Odesa who cannot evacuate or who do not wish to leave. MP also assists refugees.
The relief work is led by our long-time worker, Oleg, who decided to stay in Odesa to continue working and help those in need, along with other members of our team who remain there.
Oleg is very calm but also worried – not only about the war now but also about its long-term consequences. Everything is at a standstill and living day by day. The rise in crime is also a significant concern. Our team has started distributing food, toiletries, and clothing; they are also there to support and offer the hope found in Christ.
"We already have experience of the war in 2014," Oleg told us. The material and spiritual help they provided reached many people who suffered from that crisis. The team will continue similar work in Odesa today. "We are already planning post-war work in the villages. There is a tremendous need there."
Now is the time to help those in the crisis in Ukraine. We ask that you pray for the people in need and our team members. Financial help and support are also needed.
Finally, while we are concerned, we are not hopeless because our trust is in God.
"Call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me." Ps. 50:15
