In 2021 our teams in Bulgaria and Russia personally distributed more than 1,000 Baby Boxes to mothers.

Hundreds of mothers (and fathers) heard the gospel, were prayed for, came to the church, and received parental instruction and counseling.

Vera is one of these mothers and was tremendously grateful and touched by the help she received.

Vera came to our shelter home four years ago when her mother died suddenly. We helped her get in touch with her grandmother, who became her guardian.

Now Vera is 21 years old, married, and the mother of a young child.

Recently she called us:

“I don’t know what to do. I’m expecting another baby! She will be born soon but we haven’t been able to prepare in any way. We can barely live with my husband’s salary, even though another family lives with us in our apartment to share the housing cost. I was offered an abortion but I refused.”

We went to visit the family.

Mother with babyboxThe two-room apartment was tiny but tidy. In big cities, it is common for young people who don’t have parental support to share an apartment with friends who are in a similar situation.

When Vera opened the Baby Box we brought and saw all the baby clothes and items, tears welled up in her eyes. As we prayed for her and promised to continue to help her family, her face began to shine.

Joyfully she served us tea and cookies. As we were having tea, she said:

I’m thinking of naming my baby Nadezhda (Hope), even though it’s a bit of an old-fashioned name – because we now have hope!”
