Great Treasure Gained from the Ruins of a Home
Late one evening our Bulgarian team received a phone call.
“Pastor, the house of a poor family in our village burned down! Nothing remains! Can Mission Possible help?” asked the caller.
Two days later our team went and brought food, clothes, blankets, mattresses, and other necessities for the family who was staying in a deserted house nearby.
We were met by Elisa, a woman about 50 years old, with a little boy. Elisa and her husband had been childless, so they adopted an orphan boy.
She took us to the ruins of their home. Brokenhearted, she told about her life and then the fire that consumed the house.
“I’ve been a bad woman. Everyone shuns and blames me. No one wanted to help us when this happened. But you strangers came to help!”
Elisa’s husband then arrived. I handed them one more gift – a Bible – and spoke to them about Jesus’ love and sacrifice for us. Elisa spoke with tears in her eyes, “I need Jesus in my life!”
We prayed and Elisa asked Jesus to be her Savior.
Shortly afterwards she said, “I have a strange feeling. I feel warmth and love, even for those who have treated me badly!”
“Dear Elisa,” I told her with a smile. “God has begun to work in your life and has turned your heart’s anger to forgiveness. Don’t hesitate; share God’s love with everyone!”
