A Street Girl Becomes a Bride

There are so many people who have told us that our work with homeless and abandoned children and youth is futile. “It’s impossible to change them!” we are told. Nevertheless, we have continued year after year – and we have seen time and time again how God works miracles to save these young ones.

Diana at street patrol 2We first met Diana many years ago when hundreds of homeless children and youth lived on the streets. She was one of the contemptuously dubbed “street girls.”

Diana was a fighter.

She was the oldest girl amongst her acquaintances and one of the first to get pregnant. After her son was born, Diana moved in with the baby’s father, who shared a small apartment with his drug-addicted friend. Soon Diana gave birth to a little girl.

Diana loved her children, who were her source of strength in her fight against the hardships of life. But when her daughter was three years old, she drowned in a pit of water in the yard. The loss was very heavy.

“With God’s help, I survived, and He gave me another daughter,” Diana testified.

The children’s father died of AIDS and Diana was again left to fight alone. We became her support during those years. When Diana was exhausted and overwhelmed she’d call and ask for prayer.

One year ago Diana met a man who is good and caring and wanted to build a relationship on the right foundation.

“Before we start living together, we’ll get married and have a wedding celebration!” he said.

Diana came to tell us this good news.

“Can this really be happening to me – that I can be a bride in a wedding dress?” she wondered.

Yes! In September she was a beautiful bride! We attended the wedding ceremony and watched Diana get married in a beautiful white wedding gown in a union that honored the Lord.

This year Diana will celebrate a very special Christmas with her new husband and daughter. She is so thankful to God for this new beginning.

A Baby Box for Diana’s grandbaby

Despite her young age, Diana is now a grandmother! Our team, together with Diana and her daughter, took a Baby Box to her son’s home for his newborn.

“Don’t repeat your mother’s mistakes! Build your own and your family’s life according to God’s will,” Diana advised her son. “He saved my life. He can help you, too!”
