A Much Expected Home!
A New Shelter for Street Children and Youth Opens in Yekaterinburg
Yekaterinburg shelter home Mission Possible’s new shelter home was officially inaugurated in September 2009. Over ten boys and girls, 2 to 17 year of age, and two small babies already live there. The second baby was born to one of the girls on the morning of the inauguration! Without this home, these children and teens wouldn’t have a safe place to stay. When the personnel and all necessary home functions are set up, more children will be housed.
A teen mother and babyWe bought the house two years ago with a donation designated for this purpose. The building only had exterior walls and a roof; all the interior had to be built, which was an enormous undertaking for our team. Two floors with area of 400 m2 are now completed. The spacious basement is still under a process of remodeling into a free time and work space.
As a result of the economical depression, municipal establishments for children and youth in crisis have been closed recently. Our shelter meets a great need.
During its five years of operation, our street patrol in the city has rescued tens of children and youth. Many have been sent to rehabiltiation centers. Now we have a center of our own with a personnel in whom the children trust. The threshold for leaving the street is now much lower for them.
